Sonic

The Smith County Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome our latest new member, Sonic Drive-in Restaurant; Todd and Diane Smith, owners.

Todd and Diane Smith stated, “We would like to thank all of Smith County for their patronage over the years and continued support.  We are looking forward to serving from a new and updated facility soon.”

Sonic has plans to open a location in front of the local Wal-Mart in the future.

SONIC’S history can be traced back to 1953 and a small root beer stand called Top Hat in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  In 1959, after successfully operating a handful of Top Hat locations, Troy Smith and partner Charles Pappe christened the existing locations SONIC, a good match for their slogan, “Service at the Speed of Sound.”  Since that time Sonic has used several innovative slogans they include: “Service With the Speed of Sound” (1958), “Happy Eating” (1980s: on signs at many of the company’s drive-ins), “America’s Drive-In” (1987), “Summer’s Funner” (1993), “It’s Sonic Good” (2003), “Sonic’s Got It, Others Don’t” (2007), “Even Sweeter After Dark” (2009), “This is How You Sonic” (2011), And finally “It’s not just good. It’s Sonic good”.  Community Support is also something Sonic is about.  On the official website Sonic states: “SONIC is more than a great place to grab a Footlong Quarter Pound Coney and a Cherry Limeade. Our heritage is not only about great food and friendly service but also being part of the community. It’s not just the right thing to do…it’s good business.”  The local Sonic has been a part of our business community since 1996. Sonic
