104.1 The Ranch – WUCZ, Today’s Hot New Country is our local Smith County radio station located on 104 Z Country Lane, Carthage Tennessee. Hot New Country Radio at its finest broadcasting the best and latest County Music featuring Interviews with up and coming country stars and celebrities. On Sunday Evenings from 7 to 8 PM you can hear the local Gospel Greats, Wilburn & Wilburn. Weekdays you can tune in for great Country Music, local High School Sports, UT Football and more. 104.1 The Ranch has a rich History in Smith County with Roots that trace all the way back to 1959. With assistance from WCOR Radio in Lebanon Tennessee Mr. Reggie Honey, a Marine veteran of World War II and native of Greenback Tennessee, established WRKM 1350 AM in 1959. Mr. Honey moved with his family to Carthage with the opening of WRKM 1350 and operated it until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Honey was a charter member of the Smith County Chamber of Commerce. The location and building currently housing WUCZ 104.1 The Ranch is the original structure constructed by Mr. Honey’s silent partner Mr. Pete Watts who owned, at that time, the property where the radio tower and studios were placed. Traditionally a source for local news and information for the listeners within the radius of the tower projection the station has seen many formats. The current up to date programing was originally preceded by “block Programming” which consisted of mornings = country, midday = gospel, early afternoon = country, 3-5 = WRKM’s “Rockin’ Party” and, 5-signoff = “Music for Dining”). Music for Dining consisted of Instrumentals like the Nashville Strings and soft music like The Lettermans. Radio stations located in small towns with large markets used block programing to capture a wide range audience. This format declined as the Radio frequencies continued to fill up and FM became the dominant listening vehicle for Radio.
